Week 13 - Day 57

Monday
Scupper drain exit point, with Will in the background.

Gabe working on the back deck.

Week 13 - Day 57

Monday
Don't know what to say.

Week 12 - Weekend

They are going to put in the new deck stairs soon, so had to move some plants out of the way. Should have done that long time ago, looks better, or maybe it is just nice to have a change.

Week 12 - Weekend

Cat followed me around all day. No bad men around and he misses his home upstairs.  He seems to really like the new deck upstairs.

Week 12 - Weekend

More cleanup today upstairs.

Week 12 - Day 56

Friday
Cleaned up the basement today. So much better.  You get used to the mess but after awhile it wears on you.

Week 12 - Day 56

Friday
Now that the deck has been waterproofed, Gabe put the rainscreen cladding up. Cool.

Week 12 - Day 56

Friday
Nice rainy, windy night as usual.
Funny I didn't get pictures, but remember me mentioning the drain that they put in my deck that goes throught the floor to Linda's kitchen?  Well, doesn't take much to figure out what happened.  Linda was up in the middle of the night mopping etc and I slept peacefully through it all. The back was flooded a bit too, the drains are plugged from dirt and debris but only got a picture of the last bit of it. All back to normal now.

Week 12 - Day 55

Thursday
This is where the original stairs for the main floor deck came up.  We knew they were rotten but never bothered to address it because we were going to renovate. Combination of rot, wood bugs and wasps. Classic.

Week 12 - Day 55

Thursday
Oh the deck, now there is a piece of craftsmanship.

Week 12 - Day 55

Thursday
We reached a turning point today. Deconstruction vs reconstruction. The roofers came to do the torch-on for the upstairs deck.  They added a drain in the middle which goes into the ceiling of the main floor kitchen, and this will be directed outside somehow in the future. Per code there is also a scupper drain for overflow which exits out the side of the house.  Quite a serious torch they had, too.

Week 12 - Day 55

Thursday
Just like these pictures.

Week 12 - Day 54

Wednesday
Okay, not very good with the note taking about the goings on. I do know that Linda worked like a fiend today, cleared the back of all the debris. Dennis pulled out the old electrical in the basement.  Will and Gabe continued on the back filling and framing and we are getting closer to plumbing and electrical.

Week 12 - Day 53

Tuesday
More framing bits, odds and ends. More pictures as usual in the gallery.

Framing of doorway and closet for the basement
'rec' room.

Second attic hatch on the top floor.

Week 12 - Day 52

Monday
Heh, Will and Gabe showed up this morning. I am so happy to see them, yooo hooo.  I kind of missed them.  They are back at it, all rested up and full of energy.  First picture is what I have learned is pressure blocking, second is the pocket door off the main floor kitchen and the third is Will working on the attic hatch on the top floor.

Lulu

Self explanatory.

Holiday Update

New Year's Eve!
Yikes, the temperature has dropped again and I don't want to leave my cubby.  Came up with this little ditty. Cold, cold, cold. Think I maybe going a bit stir crazy.

Oh where, oh where as my contractor gone?
Oh where, oh were can he be...
Is his beard cut short, and is his carpenter done?
Oh where, oh where can he be?

Holiday Update

Another holiday season over and done with. Hope everyone had a nice one.  Here is a short recap of what it was like here. Christmas Eve, leaks galore.  Leaky galore? Sounds like a James Bond film.  First it was in the basement.  The kitchen radiators that had been capped off some time back sprung a leak.  Dennis tried to tighten it but only managed to slow it a bit.   But I see now that it has rusted over and has stopped now.  It had been raining hard so the usual leaks abound and the tarps are blowing off.
Tip: Have lots of tubs and buckets around to catch various leaks or make sure the roof gets done right away or don't do it in the winter.
It is common to come through the front door and hear the familiar drip drip drip and do a tour through the house to make sure something somewhere isn't awry.
That is about it, exciting, right?
